Yo-Yo Ma is an American cellist regarded as one of the most accomplished and widely admired classical musicians of his generation. He has recorded more than 90 albums and won 19 Grammy Awards across genres ranging from the Bach Cello Suites to bluegrass and Brazilian music, and has performed at presidential inaugurations, the Nobel Prize ceremony, and the funerals of John F. Kennedy and Sergei Rachmaninoff. He founded the Silkroad Ensemble in 2000 to explore cross-cultural musical traditions and has received the National Medal of Arts and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
