Xi Jinping

Xi Jinping is a Chinese politician who has served as General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party since 2012 and as president of China since 2013, having abolished presidential term limits in 2018 to enable indefinite rule. His administration has overseen the construction of a network of internment camps in Xinjiang in which an estimated one million Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims have been detained, the dismantling of Hong Kong's autonomy under the 2020 National Security Law, and an unprecedented sustained military pressure campaign on Taiwan. Domestically he has built the most pervasive surveillance state in modern history and a personality cult that explicitly evokes Mao Zedong.
