1756 – 1791
dead
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an Austrian Classical-era composer whose more than 800 cataloged works—including 41 symphonies, 27 piano concertos, 23 operas, and an unfinished Requiem—are foundational to the Western musical canon. A child prodigy who began composing at five and toured the courts of Europe by ten, he produced his mature operas Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, and Die Zauberflöte in a creative burst before his death at age 35. He died in Vienna under disputed medical circumstances in December 1791, leaving behind some of the most performed music in history.
