William Henry Harrison
1773 – 1841
dead
William Henry Harrison was the ninth president of the United States, serving for just 31 days in March and April 1841 before dying in office, the shortest presidential tenure in U.S. history. His pre-presidential career as territorial governor of Indiana and U.S. Army general was built on aggressive military campaigns against Native peoples, including the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811 and his command at the Battle of the Thames in 1813, which killed Tecumseh and broke the pan-tribal confederacy resisting U.S. expansion. His election made his grandson Benjamin Harrison the only U.S. president directly descended from a previous president.
