Wilbur Louis Ross Jr. is an American businessman who served as the 39th U.S. Secretary of Commerce from 2017 to 2021 in the first Trump administration. Forbes removed him from its list of the world's billionaires after concluding he had appeared to have inflated the value of his assets by some $2 billion, and during his tenure he repeatedly failed to divest financial holdings as required, prompting the Office of Government Ethics to refuse to certify his financial disclosures. He was widely reported to fall asleep in cabinet meetings, and his decision to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census was later blocked by the Supreme Court for being based on "contrived" pretextual reasoning.
