Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelensky is a Ukrainian politician, lawyer, and former entertainer who has served as the sixth president of Ukraine since May 2019. After winning the presidency by a landslide as a political outsider, he was thrust into a defining global role following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, refusing to evacuate Kyiv and addressing more than two dozen national parliaments and the United Nations to coordinate international support for Ukraine's defense. Time named him 2022 Person of the Year and Politico's most powerful person in Europe.
