Thomas Earl Petty was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist who fronted the rock bands Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Mudcrutch and was a member of the late-1980s supergroup the Traveling Wilburys with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne. He sold more than 80 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Heartbreakers in 2002. He died in 2017 at age 66 from an accidental opioid overdose, days after completing the Heartbreakers' 40th-anniversary tour.
