Tom DeLay

Thomas Dale DeLay is an American retired politician who represented Texas's 22nd congressional district in the U.S. House from 1985 to 2006 and served as House Majority Leader from 2003 to 2005, known as "the Hammer" for his aggressive whip operation. In 2010 a Texas jury convicted him of money laundering and conspiracy in connection with funneling corporate contributions to state legislative candidates in 2002, but his convictions were overturned by an appellate court in 2013 on grounds that the evidence was legally insufficient. He resigned his House seat in 2006 amid the related criminal investigations.
