Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, known by the stage name Sting, is an English musician and actor who served as the principal songwriter, lead vocalist, and bassist for the rock band the Police from 1977 until their break in 1986, and has since pursued a solo career across rock, jazz, classical, and worldbeat genres. He has won 17 Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, a Golden Globe, and four Oscar nominations across his combined work, with worldwide record sales exceeding 100 million. He has also been a longstanding Amnesty International ambassador and helped found the Rainforest Foundation.
