Stephen Edwin King is an American author known as the "King of Horror" who has published more than 60 novels and roughly 200 short stories across horror, suspense, fantasy, and science fiction, with worldwide sales exceeding 350 million copies. His works—including Carrie, The Shining, It, Misery, The Stand, and the eight-volume Dark Tower series—have generated dozens of major film and television adaptations, several of which (The Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me, Misery) have themselves become cinematic classics. He received the National Medal of Arts in 2014 and the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters in 2003.
