Sonia Sotomayor

Sonia Maria Sotomayor is an American attorney and jurist who has served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States since 2009, the first Hispanic and first Latina justice in the Court's history. Nominated by President Barack Obama, she previously served as a federal district judge for the Southern District of New York and on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Her dissents on cases involving affirmative action, voting rights, religious liberty, and reproductive rights have become some of the most widely cited liberal voices on the modern Court.
