Sirhan Bishara Sirhan is a Palestinian-Jordanian man who assassinated U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy on June 5, 1968, shooting him at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles moments after Kennedy claimed victory in the California Democratic presidential primary. He was convicted of first-degree murder in April 1969 and originally sentenced to death by gas chamber, a sentence commuted to life imprisonment in 1972 following the People v. Anderson ruling. He has remained incarcerated at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility for over five decades and stated in a 1989 interview that his motive was Kennedy's support for sending fifty fighter jets to Israel.
