Sergio Leone was an Italian filmmaker who pioneered the spaghetti Western genre and is widely regarded as one of the greatest directors in the history of cinema. His Dollars Trilogy starring Clint Eastwood—A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965), and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)—and the subsequent Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) and Once Upon a Time in America (1984) established him as a singular stylist of long takes, extreme close-ups, and panoramic compositions. His decades-long collaboration with composer Ennio Morricone produced some of the most recognizable film music ever written.
