Roger Eugene Ailes was an American television executive and Republican political consultant who founded Fox News Channel in 1996 and served as its chairman and CEO until his ouster in 2016 over multiple accusations of sexual harassment. As a media consultant he advised the presidential campaigns of Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush, and his Fox News programming model fundamentally reshaped American political journalism by fusing partisan opinion with rolling news. After his 2016 departure—which followed lawsuits by anchors Gretchen Carlson and Megyn Kelly and a $20 million settlement to Carlson—21st Century Fox paid more than $50 million to additional Ailes accusers.
