Richard Branson

Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson is a British entrepreneur and founder of the Virgin Group, which now spans more than 400 companies. His personal residence has been Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands since 2006, an arrangement that journalists and the BBC's Panorama have linked to substantial reductions in his and his companies' UK tax exposure even as Virgin Care and other Virgin subsidiaries collected NHS contracts worth roughly £2 billion between 2013 and 2020. In 2017 Virgin Care successfully sued the NHS for an undisclosed settlement after losing a child-services contract bid in Surrey, drawing cross-party condemnation; in April 2020 he simultaneously lobbied the British government for a £500 million bailout of Virgin Atlantic and offered Necker Island as collateral.
