Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pelé, was a Brazilian professional footballer widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. He won three FIFA World Cups with Brazil—1958, 1962, and 1970—remaining the only player ever to win three, and his career total of 1,279 goals in 1,363 games is recognized by Guinness World Records. He was named FIFA Player of the Century in 1999 and IOC Athlete of the Century in the same year.
