Nigel Farage was a principal architect of the Brexit campaign, during which affiliated groups he backed were found by UK electoral authorities to have broken campaign finance laws and spread disinformation. In 2023, the European Union's General Court ordered him to repay misused EU parliamentary funds that had been improperly diverted to support his former party, UKIP. He has built his career on inflammatory anti-immigrant rhetoric that civil rights organizations and political opponents have widely condemned for fueling xenophobia and racial hostility.
