Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, known professionally as Nicki Minaj, is a Trinidadian-American rapper whose 2010 debut Pink Friday made her one of the highest-charting female rappers of the 2010s. In September 2021 she tweeted to her then nearly 23 million followers that her cousin's friend in Trinidad had become impotent and infertile after taking the COVID-19 vaccine, prompting a public correction from the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Health, the U.S. CDC, and Anthony Fauci, and a wave of vaccine misinformation that researchers later traced back to her account. Her husband Kenneth Petty pleaded guilty in 2021 to failing to register as a sex offender after a previous Pennsylvania conviction for attempted rape, and the 1994 victim of that attack subsequently sued the couple, alleging witness intimidation; the suit was settled out of court in 2023.
