Napoleon Bonaparte

Napoleon Bonaparte was a French general and statesman who rose through the chaos of the French Revolution to become Emperor of the French from 1804 to 1814 and again briefly in 1815 during the Hundred Days. His Napoleonic Wars across two decades killed an estimated three to six million Europeans, the largest European war death toll until World War I. He restored slavery in France's Caribbean colonies in 1802 after the Revolution had abolished it, sending an army to crush the Haitian Revolution that ultimately succeeded only in producing a free Haiti and the deaths of tens of thousands of his own soldiers.
