Mitch McConnell is an American politician who has served as Kentucky’s senior U.S. senator since 1985 and as Senate Republican leader from 2007 to 2025. He is widely condemned for blocking Merrick Garland’s 2016 Supreme Court nomination while rushing Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation weeks before the 2020 election, and for systematically using obstructionist tactics to halt legislation, oppose voting rights measures, and consolidate conservative judicial power. (And he looks like a turtle)
