Matthew David McConaughey is an American actor whose 2014 Best Actor Academy Award for his role as AIDS patient Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyers Club anchored a much-discussed mid-career creative renaissance dubbed the "McConaissance." Subsequent work in Interstellar (2014), True Detective (2014), and Mud (2012) cemented his place as a major dramatic actor after years of romantic-comedy leading roles. His 2020 memoir Greenlights became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller, and he has remained a notable independent civic voice in his home state of Texas.
