Martin Shkreli
1983 – 20??
Martin Shkreli is a former pharmaceutical executive and hedge fund manager who provoked widespread outrage for raising the price of the lifesaving antiparasitic drug Daraprim by over 5,000 percent while leading Turing Pharmaceuticals, severely restricting patient access to maximize profit. In 2017, he was convicted of securities fraud and conspiracy for operating a Ponzi-like scheme that misled investors in his hedge funds and misappropriated assets from his biotech firm Retrophin to cover losses, resulting in a seven-year federal prison sentence. He further generated contempt through serial online harassment of journalists and others, cementing a reputation for predatory exploitation and public malice.
