Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is an Iranian politician who served as the sixth president of Iran from 2005 to 2013. His tenure was marked by repeated public denials of the Holocaust, calls for Israel to be "wiped off the map," and the violent suppression of the Green Movement protests that erupted after his disputed re-election in 2009, in which dozens were killed and thousands of demonstrators were detained, tortured, or sentenced in mass political trials. His government also sharply accelerated Iran's uranium-enrichment program in defiance of international sanctions.
