Louis Vuitton was a French malletier and businessman who founded the Louis Vuitton leather-goods house in 1854 after working as trunk-maker to Empress Eugénie de Montijo. The luxury brand he established now operates as a subsidiary of LVMH and has faced sustained criticism for failures to eliminate forced labour in its supply chain, mistreatment allegations from models in 2017, and 2024 controversies in Barcelona involving documented damage to the UNESCO-listed Park Güell during a sponsored fashion show. The LV monogram he created has also become one of the most counterfeited and most aggressively litigated trademarks in the world.
