Lawrence Edward Page is an American businessman and computer scientist who in 1998 co-founded Google with Sergey Brin and served as its CEO from 1998 to 2001 and 2011 to 2015 and as Alphabet CEO from 2015 to 2019. Under his leadership Google became the dominant global gateway to the internet and a defining surveillance-advertising business model that has been the subject of major antitrust judgments in the United States, the European Union, and India. He has remained a controlling Alphabet shareholder while spending much of the 2020s in seclusion in the South Pacific.
