Kurt Cobain
1967 – 1994
dead
Kurt Donald Cobain was an American musician who served as the lead vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter of the grunge band Nirvana, whose 1991 album Nevermind redefined mainstream rock and brought the alternative scene of the Pacific Northwest to global audiences. His angsty, confessional songwriting and reluctance toward fame made him a defining voice of Generation X across In Utero (1993) and the band's 1993 MTV Unplugged session. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in April 1994 at age 27 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Nirvana in 2014.
