Kellyanne Elizabeth Conway is an American political consultant and pollster who served as senior counselor to President Donald Trump from 2017 to 2020 and was Trump's 2016 campaign manager—the first woman to manage a winning U.S. presidential campaign. Days after the inauguration she introduced the term "alternative facts" to defend false White House claims about inauguration crowd sizes, a phrase that became emblematic of the administration's relationship to the press. The Office of Special Counsel concluded in 2019 that she had violated the Hatch Act multiple times by openly campaigning from official platforms and recommended her removal, which Trump declined to enact.
