Karl Rove served as Senior Advisor and Deputy Chief of Staff to President George W. Bush, where he was a principal architect of the Iraq War, helping to advance an invasion based on false claims of weapons of mass destruction that resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths and widespread regional destabilization. He resigned in 2007 amid sustained controversy over his involvement in leaking the identity of covert CIA officer Valerie Plame and exploiting federal agencies for partisan political purposes.
