John Edwards

Johnny Reid Edwards is an American lawyer and former politician who represented North Carolina in the U.S. Senate from 1999 to 2005 and was the Democratic Party's vice presidential nominee on John Kerry's ticket in 2004. While running for president in 2008 he conducted an extramarital affair with campaign videographer Rielle Hunter that produced a child, even as his wife Elizabeth was being treated for terminal breast cancer. He was indicted in 2011 on six federal felony counts of campaign-finance violations for using donor money to conceal the affair; the case ended with one acquittal and a hung jury on the remaining counts.
