Alicia Christian "Jodie" Foster is an American actress and filmmaker whose six-decade career began in childhood and has produced two Academy Awards for Best Actress, for The Accused (1988) and The Silence of the Lambs (1991), as well as the Cecil B. DeMille Award and the Honorary Palme d'Or. Her director credits include Little Man Tate, Home for the Holidays, and The Beaver, and she has continued to take selectively chosen roles into the 2020s, earning further Oscar nominations for Nyad (2023) and True Detective: Night Country (2024). She came out publicly in 2013 in a much-discussed Golden Globe acceptance speech.
