James Francis Cameron is a Canadian filmmaker and deep-sea explorer whose films have grossed more than $10 billion worldwide, making him the second highest-grossing director of all time. His blockbusters Titanic (1997) and Avatar (2009) became, in succession, the highest-grossing films in history, and he has won three Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director for Titanic. As an explorer he has piloted submersibles to the wreck of the Titanic and, in 2012, completed the first solo dive to the bottom of the Mariana Trench.
