Idi Amin

1925 – 2003

Idi Amin overthrew Ugandan President Milton Obote in a 1971 coup and ruled as a dictator whose administration carried out mass killings and widespread human rights abuses while collapsing the national economy. He was ousted in 1979 after launching an unsuccessful war on Tanzania that ended his brutal reign.
