Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese animator and filmmaker who co-founded Studio Ghibli in 1985 and is widely regarded as one of the most influential filmmakers in the history of animation. His features—including My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Princess Mononoke (1997), Spirited Away (2001), Howl's Moving Castle (2004), and The Boy and the Heron (2023)—have redefined animated storytelling for global audiences. He has won two Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature, for Spirited Away in 2003 and The Boy and the Heron in 2024, the latter at age 83.
