Greta Tintin Eleonora Ernman Thunberg is a Swedish climate activist who in August 2018, at age 15, began a solo school strike outside the Swedish parliament that grew within months into the worldwide Fridays for Future movement of millions of student strikers. She has addressed the United Nations Climate Action Summit, the World Economic Forum, the European Parliament, and the U.S. Congress, repeatedly confronting world leaders over their failure to act on the scientific consensus around climate change. She was named Time magazine's Person of the Year in 2019, the youngest person ever to receive the recognition.
