George Santos

George Anthony Devolder Santos is a former U.S. representative from New York's 3rd congressional district who served from January to December 2023, when he was expelled from the House by a vote of 311–114. Federal prosecutors charged him with 23 felony counts including wire fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds, and identity theft, and he ultimately pleaded guilty in August 2024 to two counts of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, agreeing to repay more than $370,000. His campaign biography fabrications—claiming Wall Street jobs he never held, a college education that never happened, a Jewish identity he never had, and family who died on 9/11 and in the Holocaust—became national emblems of public-figure dishonesty.
