Francis Ford Coppola is an American filmmaker who is widely regarded as one of the greatest directors in cinema history and a leading figure of the New Hollywood era of the late 1960s and 1970s. His best-known films—The Godfather (1972), The Conversation (1974), The Godfather Part II (1974), and Apocalypse Now (1979)—won him five Academy Awards including two Best Picture statues, alongside two Palmes d'Or at Cannes. He continued directing into his 80s with the 2024 self-financed epic Megalopolis.
