Christian Charles Philip Bale is an English actor known for committing extraordinary physical transformations to his roles. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Fighter (2010) and earned subsequent nominations for American Hustle, The Big Short, and Vice, while anchoring Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy as Batman/Bruce Wayne. His career began in childhood with the lead role in Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun (1987).
