Carrie Frances Fisher was an American actress and writer best known for playing Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy (1977–1983) and reprising the role in the sequel trilogy from 2015 onward. Beyond her screen work she was a successful novelist and memoirist whose books, including Postcards from the Edge (1987), Wishful Drinking (2008), and The Princess Diarist (2016), candidly chronicled her bipolar disorder and addiction. Her sustained mental-health advocacy made discussions of bipolar disorder a regular feature of mainstream media.
