Bob Dole

Robert Joseph Dole was an American politician and U.S. Army officer who represented Kansas in the U.S. Senate from 1969 to 1996, serving as Republican Senate leader for 11 years including three years as majority leader. A decorated World War II veteran who suffered career-ending wounds in Italy in 1945, he was the Republican nominee for president in 1996 and dedicated his post-Senate years to championing veterans' causes, including spearheading the creation of the National World War II Memorial.
