Alexander Frederick Douglas-Home, Baron Home of the Hirsel, was a British Conservative politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from October 1963 to October 1964, the last prime minister to be drawn from the House of Lords. To take the post he renounced his earldom and won a by-election to the House of Commons within weeks. He earlier served as Foreign Secretary under Harold Macmillan and again under Edward Heath in the 1970s.
