Sir Alec Victor Bedser was an English professional cricketer and medium-fast bowler widely regarded as one of the finest English cricketers of the 20th century. Across his Test career from 1946 to 1955 he took 236 wickets for England and accumulated 1,924 first-class wickets in 485 matches for Surrey. He later served as chairman of the England Test selectors for 13 years from 1969 and was knighted in 1996 for services to cricket.
