Albert Uderzo was a French comic book artist and scriptwriter best known as the co-creator and illustrator of the Astérix series, working in collaboration with writer René Goscinny from 1959 until Goscinny's death in 1977. Across more than 60 years of work he produced 39 Astérix volumes that have been translated into 117 languages and dialects and have collectively sold an estimated 380 million copies, making it one of the best-selling comic series in history. After Goscinny's death he continued the series as both writer and artist before transferring it to a new creative team in 2013.
