Albert Speer was a German architect who served as Adolf Hitler's chief architect and as Minister of Armaments and War Production from 1942 until the end of the Second World War. As armaments minister he doubled and tripled German weapons output by ruthlessly exploiting concentration-camp slave labor, including direct knowledge of the conditions at Mittelbau-Dora. Convicted at the Nuremberg trials of war crimes and crimes against humanity, he served 20 years in Spandau Prison and spent the rest of his life cultivating the now-discredited image of the "good Nazi" who claimed not to have known about the Holocaust.
