Albert Sabin

Albert Bruce Sabin was a Polish-American medical researcher who developed the oral polio vaccine, an attenuated live-virus formulation that proved cheaper and easier to administer than Salk's injectable inactivated vaccine and has since played the central role in nearly eradicating polio worldwide. Like Salk, he refused to patent the vaccine so that it could reach as many children as possible, and personally dosed his daughters before public trials to demonstrate its safety. He served as president of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel from 1969 to 1972.
