Alan Curtis Kay is an American computer scientist who pioneered object-oriented programming, the windowed graphical user interface, and the conception of the personal computer as we know it today. At Xerox PARC in the 1970s he led the development of the Smalltalk programming language—coining the term "object-oriented"—and the Dynabook concept that anticipated the laptop and tablet by decades. He received the 2003 Turing Award and the 2004 Kyoto Prize for his foundational contributions to modern computing.
