Alan Jay Lerner was an American lyricist and librettist whose collaborations with composer Frederick Loewe produced some of the defining stage and screen musicals of the mid-20th century, including Brigadoon, Paint Your Wagon, My Fair Lady, Camelot, and Gigi. He won three Tony Awards and three Academy Awards across his career, with My Fair Lady setting Broadway box-office records that stood for decades. He continued to write for the stage and screen until shortly before his death in 1986.
