Sir Alan Ayckbourn is an English playwright and director who has written more than 90 full-length plays in a career spanning more than six decades, making him one of the most-produced living playwrights in the English-speaking world. From his breakthrough hits Relatively Speaking and How the Other Half Loves through later works including The Norman Conquests trilogy and A Chorus of Disapproval, he served as artistic director of the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough from 1972 to 2009. He was knighted in 1997 for services to theatre.
