Alfred Unser was an American racing driver and a four-time Indianapolis 500 winner—1970, 1971, 1978, and 1987—joining A. J. Foyt as the second of only four drivers in history to win the race four times. He won the USAC and CART national championships and is the patriarch of the Unser racing family, alongside his brothers Jerry and Bobby and son Al Jr. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1991.
