Alphonse Gabriel "Al" Capone was an American gangster who served as boss of the Chicago Outfit during the Prohibition era, building a bootlegging empire estimated to generate $100 million annually. He orchestrated the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre of February 14, 1929, in which seven members of Bugs Moran's North Side Gang were lined up and machine-gunned in a Lincoln Park garage, and was implicated in dozens of additional murders of rival gangsters, journalists, and witnesses.
