Jalal-ud-Din Muhammad Akbar was the third Mughal emperor, reigning from 1556 to 1605, and is generally considered one of the greatest emperors in Indian history. He vastly expanded Mughal territory across the subcontinent while pioneering policies of religious tolerance unprecedented for his era, abolishing the jizya tax on non-Muslims and convening interfaith debates among Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Jains, and Zoroastrians at his court. His administrative reforms in taxation, land revenue, and centralized governance shaped the Mughal state for the next century.
